📖 Marian Coman Complete Bibliography
Marian Coman is a Romanian writer whose work spans dark fantasy, speculative fiction, supernatural short stories, graphic storytelling and other forms of imaginative literature. Best known for the Haiganu trilogy, he has also published interconnected story collections, standalone fiction and comic-book scripts, contributing to the development of contemporary Romanian fantasy and science fiction.
His career began with short fiction before expanding into novels and comics. Over the years, his stories have appeared in Romanian and international anthologies, while several have been translated into other languages.
This bibliography follows the original publication of each distinct work, rather than treating every new edition as a separate book. Revised editions, translated collections and related graphic publications are identified in their own sections.
The guide also highlights connections between Coman’s fictional worlds. In particular, Haiganu developed from the pages of Harap Alb continuă, while stories originally collected in Testamentul de ciocolată later became part of the interconnected universe of Omulețul din perete, which also connects with Ultima carte.

🐺 Marian Coman’s Series in Recommended Reading Order
1. The Haiganu Trilogy
Read in the following order:
- Fluviul Șoaptelor (2015; revised edition 2026)
- Furia Oarbă (2017; revised edition 2026)
- Tristețea Zeilor (2026)
Series status: Complete — three novels.
The 2026 Nemira editions are particularly useful for readers beginning the series today because the first two volumes were revised and expanded to accompany the concluding novel.
The trilogy’s fictional origins lie in Harap Alb continuă, but reading the comics is not presented here as a prerequisite for beginning the novels.
2. The Interconnected Fantastic Fiction Universe
Recommended reading order:
- Testamentul de ciocolată (2007) — optional earlier entry point.
- Omulețul din perete și alte povestiri fantastice (2019; revised 2023).
- Ultima carte (2024).
These books are related through characters, narrative elements and recurring ideas about the boundaries between fiction and reality.
Testamentul de ciocolată is optional for readers who own Omulețul din perete, because its four Cala stories were incorporated into the later collection.
This is a connected literary universe rather than a formally numbered trilogy.
3. Tinerețe fără bătrânețe — Comic-Book Series
Six episodes:
- Și-am încălecat pe-o șa… (2015)
- Și dincolo de ceilalți? (2015)
- Episode 3 (2015)
- În ținutul zânelor (2015)
- Valea Plângerii (2016)
- Atât de târziu, așa de devreme (2016)
The series reimagines the traditional fairy tale through science-fiction storytelling.
The collected edition containing the six episodes should be treated as a compilation rather than six additional stories.

The anthology lists are particularly valuable because they show how Coman’s individual stories circulated before and alongside his major book publications.
Several stories appeared in more than one collection, sometimes in translation. These are identified as republications or anthology appearances rather than counted as entirely new works.
The tables reproduce publications identifiable from the author’s documented anthology lists. They should not be interpreted as proof that no further contributions appeared in magazines or anthologies.
🌍 Translations and International Publications
Although Marian Coman’s books were originally written primarily in Romanian, individual works have reached readers in other languages.
English
Fingers and Other Fantastic Stories (2011)
An independently published English-language eBook containing four stories drawn from Nopți albe, zile negre. The edition credits Carmen Dumitru and Raluca Chirvase as translators.
Albilița — English translation (2019)
The story originally appeared in Romanian in Cele 1001 de scorneli ale Moșului SF in 2012. A translation by Sebastian Simion was subsequently published in the American magazine Apex Magazine in January 2019.
French
La testament de chocolat — Millennium Est (2007)
A French-language appearance of the story originally known as Testamentul de ciocolată.
Le testament de chocolat — Millennium Est. Cinq histoires fantastiques (2013)
A further French-language anthology appearance.
These publications demonstrate that Coman’s fantastic fiction has circulated beyond Romania, particularly through translated short stories and international anthologies.
The available evidence does not establish a published English translation of the complete Haiganu trilogy.
🎨 Comics, Graphic Novels and Illustrated Publications
Harap Alb continuă… (2012–2017)
- Publisher: HAC!BD
- Format: Serialised comic magazine
- Extent: 38 issues
- Additional editions: Four collected albums
- Marian Coman’s role: Scriptwriting
The series brought together Romanian writers and artists in a large-scale reinterpretation of traditional fantasy material. It also provided the original creative setting from which the Haiganu universe developed.
Tinerețe fără bătrânețe (2015–2016)
- Publisher: HAC!BD
- Format: Six-episode comic-book series
- Marian Coman’s role: Scriptwriting
- Illustrated storytelling inspired by a Romanian fairy tale, reimagined through science fiction.
A collected edition is associated with the six-episode series.
TFB (2016)
A graphic publication connected to Tinerețe fără bătrânețe. It should be catalogued together with that project unless a distinct edition is being described.
1918. Marea Unire
- Original appearance: Harap Alb continuă, issues 37–38
- Script: Marian Coman
- Artwork and colour: Bogdan Chelaru
- Editor: Mihai Ionașcu
- Type: Historical documentary in comic-book form
Unlike the fantasy stories associated with HAC!, this project explores the historical circumstances surrounding the Great Union of 1918 and the subsequent lives of some of its principal figures.
🔁 Revised Editions, Reprints and Collected Works
To avoid counting the same literary work multiple times, the following publications are classified as revised editions or collections rather than new original titles.
| Original work | Later edition | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Testamentul de ciocolată (2007) | CreateSpace, 2013 | Second edition |
| Fluviul Șoaptelor (2015) | Nemira, 2026 | Revised and expanded |
| Furia Oarbă (2017) | Nemira, 2026 | Revised and expanded |
| Omulețul din perete (2019) | Nemira, 2023 | Revised, expanded and illustrated |
| Tinerețe fără bătrânețe (2015–2016) | Collected edition | Compilation of serialised episodes |
The four stories from Testamentul de ciocolată were also incorporated into Omulețul din perete, but that does not make them four newly written stories in 2019.
Similarly, the 2026 editions of the first two Haiganu novels represent new versions of existing works, not additional instalments of the trilogy.

His major Romanian publishers include:
- Tritonic — early collections and prose.
- HAC!BD — Haiganu‘s original novel editions and comics.
- Nemira / n’autor — Omulețul din perete, Ultima carte, the revised Haiganu volumes and the trilogy’s conclusion.
Romanian editions are identified here as original-language publications. Translated selections and foreign-language anthology appearances are catalogued separately.
📖 Marian Coman on BookFairy
🐺 Haiganu. Fluviul Șoaptelor
My BookFairy review explores the first Haiganu novel, a remarkable dark fantasy inspired by Romanian mythology and folklore.
I originally discovered its world through Harap Alb continuă, following the serialised comic before reading the complete novel in 2016. Its mythology, atmosphere and imaginative world-building made an extraordinary impression on me.
