📖 Victoria Aveyard Complete Bibliography
Victoria Aveyard is an American bestselling fantasy author whose career began with Red Queen in 2015. Since then, she has created several distinctive fantasy worlds, moving from young adult dystopian fiction to expansive epic fantasy and, more recently, adult fantasy.
Her bibliography includes the four main novels of the Red Queen series, companion novellas and short fiction, the complete Realm Breaker trilogy and Tempest, the opening novel of The Lyrian Sea duology.
Although Aveyard is particularly associated with stories about rebellion, political intrigue and extraordinary abilities, her books explore these themes through different settings. Red Queen examines a society divided by blood, Realm Breaker follows an unlikely group of companions confronting the destruction of their world, and The Lyrian Sea introduces a maritime fantasy setting shaped by pirates, imperial ambition and dangerous loyalties.
This bibliography follows the original publication chronology and separately presents each series in recommended reading order. It also identifies individual novellas, collected editions, omnibus publications and verified Romanian translations, avoiding the unnecessary duplication of works released in multiple formats.
📚 Victoria Aveyard Books in Publication Order
2015–2019: The Red Queen Years
Aveyard’s publishing career began with Red Queen, which quickly developed into a four-book series accompanied by additional stories. These supplementary works expand the fictional world’s history and offer perspectives beyond the central narrative.
| Year | Title | Category |
|---|---|---|
| 2015 | Red Queen | Red Queen #1 |
| 2015 | Queen Song | Red Queen prequel novella |
| 2016 | Cruel Crown | Collection of two prequel novellas |
| 2016 | Steel Scars | Red Queen prequel novella |
| 2016 | Glass Sword | Red Queen #2 |
| 2017 | King’s Cage | Red Queen #3 |
| 2018 | War Storm | Red Queen #4 |
| 2019 | Broken Throne | Red Queen companion collection |
Queen Song and Steel Scars were released individually and subsequently collected in Cruel Crown. Both also appear in Broken Throne, so readers do not need to purchase all three publications to obtain those two stories.
2021–2024: The Realm Breaker Trilogy
After completing the principal Red Queen storyline, Aveyard introduced a new epic fantasy world with Realm Breaker. The trilogy follows Corayne an-Amarat and a group of unlikely companions facing an increasingly dangerous struggle for the survival of Allward.
| Year | Title | Category |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | Realm Breaker | Realm Breaker #1 |
| 2022 | Blade Breaker | Realm Breaker #2 |
| 2024 | Fate Breaker | Realm Breaker #3 |
All three novels form one completed narrative and should be read in publication order.
2026: A New Era — The Lyrian Sea
In 2026, Aveyard expanded into adult fantasy with a maritime adventure involving piracy, political conflict and complicated personal histories.
| Year | Title | Category |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | Tempest | The Lyrian Sea #1 |
Tempest was first published on 8 September 2026. The series is planned as a duology, but its second volume is not included among books published by October 2026.
👑 Victoria Aveyard Series in Recommended Reading Order
1. Red Queen Series
The Red Queen series established Victoria Aveyard’s reputation as a fantasy author. Set in a society where the colour of a person’s blood determines their social position, it follows Mare Barrow, a young Red whose extraordinary abilities challenge the foundations of Silver rule.
The principal story unfolds across four novels. Two prequel novellas explore events preceding Mare’s journey, while Broken Throne provides additional fiction and supplementary material.
Recommended reading order:
- Red Queen (2015) — Book 1
- Glass Sword (2016) — Book 2
- Cruel Crown (2016) — Companion collection
- King’s Cage (2017) — Book 3
- War Storm (2018) — Book 4
- Broken Throne (2019) — Companion collection and additional stories
Red Queen Prequel Novellas
- Queen Song (2015)
- Steel Scars (2016)
These stories are set before the events of Red Queen, but first-time readers may prefer to follow Aveyard’s recommended order and explore them after Glass Sword.
Both are included in Cruel Crown.
Broken Throne (2019)
Broken Throne is a companion collection intended for readers who have completed the main series. It brings together previously published novellas, new short fiction and additional material exploring the history and future of the Red Queen universe.
The collection includes the previously published Queen Song and Steel Scars, alongside further stories and supplementary material.
Reading recommendation: Save Broken Throne until after War Storm. Although some of its material explores earlier events, other sections take place beyond the main storyline.
2. Realm Breaker Trilogy
Realm Breaker introduces an entirely separate fantasy universe. Its central story follows Corayne an-Amarat, whose connection to an ancient bloodline places her at the heart of a conflict threatening the world of Allward.
Unlike Red Queen, which begins with a protagonist trapped within a rigid social hierarchy, this trilogy adopts a broader epic fantasy structure, bringing together characters from different backgrounds and following their struggle against a common threat.
Reading order:
- Realm Breaker (2021)
- Blade Breaker (2022)
- Fate Breaker (2024)
The trilogy is complete.
The three novels are sometimes marketed together in collected or boxed editions. Such editions contain existing works and should not be counted as additional instalments.
3. The Lyrian Sea Series
The Lyrian Sea marks Aveyard’s move into adult fantasy. Its opening novel, Tempest, takes place in a maritime world where pirates, empires and competing political interests struggle for control.
The story follows Cat Rose, whose past relationships become entangled with a conflict threatening the independence of the Lyrian Sea.
Published book:
1. Tempest (2026)
Series status: Planned duology; one novel published as of October 2026.
This series can be read independently of Red Queen and Realm Breaker.
📕 Standalone Novels
As of October 2026, Victoria Aveyard’s original published novels belong to her established fantasy series.
No independently published standalone novel has been identified in her principal bibliography.
This distinction is important because Cruel Crown and Broken Throne are companion collections, not standalone novels, while Tempest is the opening instalment of The Lyrian Sea.
📖 Novellas and Short Fiction
Victoria Aveyard’s shorter fiction is primarily associated with the Red Queen universe. These stories expand the original narrative by exploring its history, political conflicts and secondary characters.
Queen Song (2015)
A prequel novella following Coriane, whose experiences at the Silver royal court provide additional background to the events of Red Queen.
Publication history: Originally published separately; later collected in Cruel Crown (2016) and Broken Throne (2019).
Steel Scars (2016)
A prequel novella centred on Captain Farley and the early activities of the Scarlet Guard. The story explores the developing rebellion and provides a different perspective on the political conflict.
Publication history: Published separately and collected in Cruel Crown (2016) and Broken Throne (2019).
Additional Fiction Collected in Broken Throne (2019)
The following separately identifiable stories form part of the Broken Throne companion material:
- Iron Heart
- World Behind
- Fire Light
- Fare Well
The collection also includes additional introductory, historical and supplementary material, including Monarchs of House Calore.
These pieces are listed here to identify the shorter works, but they should not be added to the novel count or treated as separate full-length books.
📚 Collections and Companion Books
Cruel Crown (2016)
Cruel Crown contains two Red Queen prequel novellas:
- Queen Song
- Steel Scars
The volume provides additional background to the royal family and the rebellion.
Broken Throne (2019)
Broken Throne is the most extensive companion publication associated with the original Red Queen series.
It includes:
- Previously published novellas.
- Additional short fiction.
- Supplementary scenes and narrative material.
- Information about the fictional world’s history.
- Maps, family histories and other world-building content.
Readers who want the broadest available collection of Red Queen companion material may prefer Broken Throne to purchasing the earlier novellas separately.

Romanian Translation Notes
The following English-language publications have not been assigned Romanian titles in this bibliography because a corresponding Romanian edition could not be reliably verified:
- Queen Song
- Steel Scars
- Cruel Crown
- Broken Throne
- Blade Breaker
- Fate Breaker
- Tempest
Availability of English-language imports from Romanian booksellers does not establish that a book has been translated into Romanian.
🌍 International Editions and Translations
Victoria Aveyard’s books have been translated into more than forty languages, reaching readers far beyond their original English-language market.
Different international publishers have issued standard paperbacks, hardcovers, ebooks, audiobooks, special editions and collected volumes. Some editions use translated titles, while others retain the original English titles.
For bibliographic purposes, these editions should be linked to the corresponding original work rather than listed as separate novels.
📖 Victoria Aveyard on BookFairy
👑 Red Queen (2015)
Romanian edition: Regina roșie — Nemira.
My BookFairy review of Red Queen explores an enjoyable dystopian fantasy novel whose central story appealed to me, even though I found its action rather predictable.
The book reminded me a little of Joe Abercrombie’s Half a King, particularly through its political atmosphere and struggles for power. I appreciated the world Aveyard created, but I would have liked a few more unexpected developments.
📖 Read My Red Queen Review

📚 Where to Start Reading Victoria Aveyard
Readers who enjoy young adult dystopian fantasy should begin with Red Queen. It introduces Aveyard’s best-known fictional world and provides the foundation for a completed four-novel series.
Those who prefer a broader epic fantasy adventure may find Realm Breaker more appealing. Its ensemble of characters, dangerous quests and larger fictional landscape distinguish it from the political environment of Red Queen.
For readers interested in adult fantasy, Tempest provides another entry point. Since The Lyrian Sea is a separate fictional universe, it does not require any previous knowledge of Aveyard’s books.
