Stephen King: Complete Bibliography (1974–2026)

An Illustrated Journey Through Novels, Short Stories, Series, Collaborations, Richard Bachman & Romanian Editions

Last updated: 24 October 2026

Few writers have built a fictional universe as vast, unsettling and interconnected as Stephen King.

From the haunted corridors of the Overlook Hotel to the town of Derry, from the prison cells of The Green Mile to Roland Deschain’s relentless journey towards the Dark Tower, King has spent more than five decades exploring the extraordinary possibilities hidden within ordinary lives.

Although best known for horror, his work extends far beyond a single genre. His bibliography includes psychological thrillers, crime fiction, fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, novellas, short stories and nonfiction.

This BookFairy bibliography follows King’s major published works in their original publication order. It includes reading orders for interconnected series, books written under the Richard Bachman pseudonym, collaborations, and a dedicated catalogue of verified Romanian editions.

📕 1. Novels — Publication Order

The following list includes Stephen King’s novels published under his own name and as Richard Bachman. Books belonging to a series appear chronologically here and are also grouped in their respective reading-order sections.

Important Publication Notes

The Stand: The Complete & Uncut Edition (1990) restores material omitted from the original 1978 version. Both versions belong to the same novel.

The Eyes of the Dragon was first published as a limited edition in 1984, followed by its widely available edition in 1987.

Other Worlds Than These (2026) completes the Jack Sawyer trilogy begun by Stephen King and Peter Straub.

🇷🇴 7. Stephen King in Romanian — Romanian Editions

Stephen King’s works have appeared in Romania through several publishing houses, including Nemira, Aquila ’93, Lucman, Trei and Adevărul.

The history of these editions is particularly interesting for readers and collectors. Some novels first appeared in multiple volumes, others were published under Romanian titles that later changed, and several books moved between publishers over the years.

How This Catalogue Works

BookFairy lists each original work once, with a separate entry for every distinct Romanian publishing house.

Multiple reprints or cover variations from the same publisher are not listed individually.

Where a publisher issued the same work under different Romanian titles, those titles are recorded together.

For older editions, the year shown is the earliest edition verified in the bibliographical sources consulted.

🦋 Stephen King on BookFairy

Stephen King has been part of my reading life for so long that I can no longer remember which of his novels I read first.

What I do remember is discovering The Shining on screen and being completely captivated by it.

Over the years, I have returned to King’s stories in different formats, but The Shining has remained my absolute favourite.

I love the novel, and I have a particular affection for its television adaptation rather than Stanley Kubrick’s famous film starring Jack Nicholson.

I am now revisiting Stephen King’s bibliography in the order in which his books were originally published.

It is a fascinating way to experience the development of his storytelling, to see how his themes evolve, how his fictional worlds expand and how connections between the books gradually emerge.

As I continue this reading journey, new reviews will be added to BookFairy and linked from this bibliography.
