๐Ÿ“– About Callie Hart

Callie Hart is a British bestselling author known for dark romance, dark academia and fantasy romance. Her stories often feature morally complicated characters, dangerous relationships, hidden secrets and worlds where trust is difficult to earn.

Although Hart established her reputation through dark contemporary romance series such as Blood & Roses, Dead Manโ€™s Ink and Crooked Sinners, she reached a much wider fantasy audience with Quicksilver, the opening novel in her Fae & Alchemy series.

Quicksilver introduces readers to a magical world shaped by ancient conflicts, fae politics, powerful secrets and an unexpected relationship at the centre of a much larger struggle. Its sequel, Brimstone, continues the story, while the series is planned as a trilogy.

Hartโ€™s bibliography extends far beyond her recent fantasy success. She has written numerous contemporary romance novels, novellas, interconnected series and standalone stories, many exploring the darker and more dangerous sides of love, loyalty and obsession.

On BookFairy, I explore Callie Hartโ€™s books through spoiler-free reviews, recommended reading orders and information about Romanian translations. My interest in her work began with Quicksilver, a novel that challenged my expectations of romantasy.

๐Ÿ’œ Why I Read Callie Hart

Romantasy is not usually my favourite genre. I tend to prefer fantasy and science fiction in which the world-building, plot and larger conflicts remain at the centre of the story, rather than becoming secondary to a romantic relationship.

That was exactly why I approached Quicksilver with some hesitation.

I had heard plenty about the book, particularly from readers whose opinions I trust, but I genuinely wasn’t sure it would be for me. What surprised me was how successfully Callie Hart balanced the romantic elements with the wider fantasy story.

The world felt ancient, dangerous and full of unanswered questions. I enjoyed discovering its history, magic and political tensions gradually, without having everything explained immediately.

I also appreciated the characters. Their motivations were rarely straightforward, and the relationships developed alongside the plot rather than taking complete control of it.

For me, Quicksilver demonstrated that romantasy can work beautifully when the fantasy elements are given enough room to breathe.

That experience made me curious about where Hart would take the story next, even though her broader catalogue of dark romance remains outside my usual reading preferences.

โญ Where Should You Start?

If you’re interested in fantasy, magical worlds and morally complicated characters, I recommend beginning with Quicksilver.

It’s the opening novel of Fae & Alchemy and introduces the series’ world, characters and central conflicts.

If you prefer contemporary dark romance, Deviant, the first instalment of Blood & Roses, offers a more representative introduction to Hart’s earlier writing.

The two books demonstrate different sides of her work, so the best starting point depends largely on whether you’re looking for fantasy romance or contemporary dark romance.

๐Ÿ’œ My Reading Experience

So far, Quicksilver is the Callie Hart novel I’ve read and reviewed on BookFairy.

What impressed me most was that it succeeded where I often find romantasy disappointing: the fantasy world mattered just as much as the central relationship.

I loved the atmosphere, the gradual revelations, the unpredictable characters and the sense that a much larger story was unfolding beyond the romance.

It was a genuinely pleasant surprise, particularly because I had begun reading with fairly modest expectations.

I’m interested in seeing how Brimstone develops the world and the conflicts introduced in the first novel.
