📖 Miloș Dumbraci Complete Bibliography

Miloș Dumbraci is the literary pseudonym of a Romanian speculative fiction writer whose work encompasses science fiction, fantasy, horror, steampunk, military SF and political allegory. His publications include a short-story collection, a novella, a grimdark fantasy novel and numerous shorter works appearing in Romanian and international magazines and anthologies.

His literary career began in 2015, with stories published in Gazeta SF. He subsequently contributed fiction, reviews, translations, interviews and essays to publications including Nautilus, Helion, Fantastica, Revista de Suspans, Argos, Galaxia 42 and Știință și Tehnică. His shorter fiction also reached international readers through English-language and translated publications.

Dumbraci’s three principal Romanian books are Hoțul de moarte, Luizienii and Flamura Neagră. Together, they demonstrate his interest in very different forms of speculative storytelling, ranging from futuristic technology and military conflict to political intrigue and dark fantasy.

His original fiction also appeared in anthologies alongside other Romanian speculative fiction authors. A selection of his stories was published in English as Red Dead Ten, under the name Mil Brăc, while later works appeared on Galaxia 42.

This BookFairy bibliography follows the chronology of first publication, distinguishes original works from subsequent collections and translations, and identifies magazine stories, anthologies and nonfiction separately. Only documented works are attributed to the author; titles that cannot yet be verified are not invented.

The first three were published in Romanian. Red Dead Ten was released digitally in English under a different form of the author’s pen name and is catalogued separately as a collected edition rather than a new original novel.

🤖 Hoțul de moarte (2016)

Short-story collection — Millennium Books

Hoțul de moarte brings together fourteen stories spanning science fiction, fantasy and horror. Its settings and subjects include futuristic technology, artificial intelligence, cyberpunk societies, political conspiracies and military conflict.

The collection demonstrates Dumbraci’s range as a speculative fiction writer, bringing together different narrative styles and imagined worlds rather than following one continuous storyline.

⚙️ Luizienii (2016)

Steampunk novella — Millennium Books

Luizienii is a politically charged steampunk novella set in an alternative society ruled by the Sun King. Its aristocratic protagonists possess extraordinary abilities granted by their sovereign, but those privileges come with an extraordinary restriction: the monarch controls almost every aspect of their existence.

The novella combines political allegory, alternative history and speculative technology, with intrigues unfolding across an imaginative setting that includes royal courts, catacombs, distant deserts and an alternative London.

⚔️ Flamura Neagră (2018)

Grimdark fantasy novel — Editura Vremea

Flamura Neagră marks Dumbraci’s move into book-length grimdark fantasy. The novel explores warfare, political power and morally complicated conflicts within an imagined world shaped by competing ambitions.

Its publication expanded his bibliography beyond the shorter speculative fiction of his earlier books, demonstrating his ability to sustain a longer fantasy narrative.

  • Collection: Icar
  • First Published: 2018
  • Literary Form: Novel

The novel is catalogued as a standalone book. A chapter excerpt, Un cal și-o sabie, appeared on Galaxia 42 in 2020; that excerpt does not constitute a separate original publication.

🌍 Red Dead Ten (2018)

English-language short-fiction collection — Mil Brăc

Red Dead Ten is a digital collection of ten speculative fiction stories issued through Smashwords under the author name Mil Brăc.

The collection introduced selected fiction to an English-language readership, reflecting Dumbraci’s wider interest in reaching international audiences.

Because Red Dead Ten gathers shorter fiction, it is identified as a collection rather than a novel. Its contents should not automatically be counted as ten previously unpublished stories; individual works retain their earliest verified publication dates.

Edition information

  • Title: Red Dead Ten
  • Author name: Mil Brăc
  • Publication: Smashwords
  • Year: 2018
  • Format: Ebook
  • Language: English
  • Contents: Ten short stories

The original publication details of the individual stories require identification from the collection’s contents before a definitive first-publication chronology can be assigned to each.

📝 Short Stories and Magazine Publications

Short fiction formed a substantial part of Dumbraci’s literary activity. His author biography records more than twenty-five speculative stories published across Romanian and international magazines.

The following works are individually identifiable from accessible publication records. Dates are those of the documented appearances; a later magazine reprint or translation does not replace a story’s earlier publication date.

Early Career — 2015–2019

Dumbraci debuted in Gazeta SF in 2015 and subsequently published stories in multiple Romanian literary magazines. His early short fiction explored military science fiction, cyberpunk, speculative technology, horror and fantasy.

Several of these works were later included in Hoțul de moarte or collaborative anthologies. Since complete contents and original magazine references have not been independently verified for every story, the remaining titles are not reconstructed from descriptions or secondary summaries.

2020Tolya and the Ankylosaur’s DeathGalaxia 42 — English-language science fiction
2020Tigermen (ZMB1)Galaxia 42 — English-language speculative fiction

These stories demonstrate the variety of Dumbraci’s shorter fiction, including first-contact science fiction, time travel, dystopian political systems and supernatural horror.

Lacrima Dei

Lacrima Dei is a first-contact science fiction story centred on an expedition to an ocean world and the possibility of encountering an alien intelligence of extraordinary power.

The story was written in 2018 and appeared in Galaxia 42 in 2020. An English-language version, God Tears, was also published in 2020.

In 2021, Lacrima Dei received the Galaxia 42 Award for Science Fiction Prose, recognising the story’s contribution to the magazine’s early publishing history.

The Romanian text, English-language version and audio adaptation are different presentations of the same original story, not three independent literary works.

Îngeri de zăpadă (2020)

Published in Galaxia 42 in October 2020, Îngeri de zăpadă is an atompunk first-contact story involving an intellectual exiled to a prison planet.

The work combines technological speculation with themes of confinement, discovery and confrontation with the unknown.

Scurt interviu cu Tovarășul (2020)

This short speculative satire appeared in Galaxia 42 in January 2020. It presents a disturbing political vision built around totalitarian control and the erosion of independent thought.

The story demonstrates Dumbraci’s interest in using speculative fiction to examine political authority and systems that demand absolute conformity.

🎧 Audio Adaptations

Some of Dumbraci’s shorter fiction appeared in audio form.

The documented recordings include:

  • Lacrima Dei — audio reading associated with its Galaxia 42 publication.
  • Vremea Vânătorii — audio adaptation published by Galaxia 42 in August 2020.

These are recorded presentations of stories rather than separate literary works. The original text and audio edition should not be counted twice.

Povestiri cu dragoni (2017)

This anthology brings together stories by Romanian authors exploring dragons through fantasy and speculative fiction. Dumbraci’s participation reflects his involvement in the contemporary Romanian fantasy community.

Helion 5 (2017)

Published by Eurostampa, Helion 5 belongs to a long-running Romanian speculative fiction anthology tradition associated with the Helion literary community.

Cele mai frumoase povestiri Science Fiction & Fantasy ale anului 2017 (2018)

This collection presents selected Romanian speculative stories associated with the 2017 publishing year. The anthology’s publication in 2018 is distinguished from the earlier publication dates of its contents.

Antologia prozei românești science-fiction (2018)

The anthology brings together Romanian science fiction by different writers, placing Dumbraci’s work within the wider development of the genre.

East of a Known Galaxy (2019)

This English-language anthology introduced Romanian speculative fiction to an international audience. It represents an additional stage in the circulation of Dumbraci’s work beyond its original Romanian publications.

🌐 English-Language Fiction and Translations

Dumbraci published fiction in English and had shorter works translated into additional languages.

His documented international publication activity includes Aphelion in the United States, Vigyan Katha in India and Regia Fantastica in Serbia.

The following English-language titles are identifiable:

Where a text is a translation or reprint of an earlier work, it is not counted as a new original story.

The pen names Miloș Dumbraci and Mil Brăc are treated as credited forms associated with the same author’s published work, not as separate authors in the BookFairy bibliography.

✍️ Essays, Reviews, Interviews and Translations

Dumbraci’s nonfiction contributions are also important to his literary career. His work for Galaxia 42 includes essays about speculative fiction, reviews of contemporary novels and interviews with writers from Romania and abroad.

Among the individually documented contributions are:

Dumbraci also translated work by other writers for Romanian speculative fiction magazines. Documented contributions to Galaxia 42 include Romanian translations of texts by Rjurik Davidson, Molly Gloss and Michael K. Iwoleit.

The original authors retain authorship of those stories; Dumbraci’s contribution is catalogued under translation rather than original fiction.

📦 Collected Editions and Reprints

The principal identified collection of Dumbraci’s short fiction in Romanian is Hoțul de moarte (2016).

Red Dead Ten (2018) is a separate English-language selection of ten stories and is therefore included as a collected publication, although overlapping stories must not be counted as new originals.

No additional omnibus edition is included without verification of its publisher, contents and publication history.

📚 Series and Reading Order

No confirmed numbered novel series has been established for Dumbraci’s three principal Romanian books.

Hoțul de moarte is a collection of separate stories, Luizienii is a novella and Flamura Neagră is a grimdark fantasy novel. They can therefore be approached independently.

For readers who wish to explore the development of his published books, the recommended order is their original publication sequence:

  1. Hoțul de moarte (2016)
  2. Luizienii (2016)
  3. Flamura Neagră (2018)

Red Dead Ten may be explored separately by readers interested in the author’s English-language short fiction.

📚 Bibliographic Notes

This bibliography follows original publication chronology and distinguishes independent books, collected short fiction, magazine stories, anthology contributions, translations, audio recordings and nonfiction.

The documented publications establish Dumbraci’s activity from 2015 through at least 2020. They do not establish that he has permanently retired from writing, nor do they identify the person behind his literary pseudonym.

The public records also contain an unresolved date discrepancy for Luizienii: Romanian bibliographic information associates it with 2016, while one English-language biography gives 2017. This catalogue retains 2016 as the year of the original edition, without creating a duplicate 2017 entry.

A complete contents list for Hoțul de moarte and the title-level first-publication history of every magazine and anthology story have not yet been independently established. These gaps are identified rather than filled with conjecture.

The current catalogue therefore documents the verified books, major anthology appearances, identifiable individual stories, translations and nonfiction, while leaving room for further archival additions.
